Zelf Knopen maken is leuk en ook heel simpel

Eerst plakjes porselein van een rol afsnijden. Net als vroeger met koekjes bakken. Je kunt natuurlijk ook eerst kleine bolletjes draaien tussen je handpalmen. Wat je maar het prettigst vindt werken. Ruwe randjes gladstrijken. Dan met sateh-stokjes gaatjes prikken en rustig plat laten drogen. Dan worden de knopen 'biskwie' gebakken in de keramiekoven, op 950 graden. [foto 1]. Vervolgens wordt de bovenkant van de knopen voorzien transparant glazuur en worden de knoopjes nogmaals gebakken. Deze keer op een temperatuur van 1250 graden. Daarna zijn de knopen sterk en klaar. [foto 2] Je kunt ze desgewenst nog decoreren. Als je dat doet moeten de knopen nog een keer gebakken worden, op een temperatuur van 1140 graden [foto 3]. Eventueel kun je het decoreren ook doen na de eerste keer bakken, dat scheelt een keer stoken.

Tante (aunt) Annie's fruit bowl. This is such a nifty design! Freshly washed fruit goes on top of the 'drainer device': the excess water leaks through and the fruit stays dry. It's like an inside-out colander. I feel very blessed I inherited this wonderful piece. It sits on my 'kitchen shelf' next to my mum's cake plates. On the bottom there's a mark" Zaalborg, Holland.

My mothers cake plates. I always loved this set. I used to ask my mum to be careful with them, because I hoped to own them 'when I was grown up'. Later, my mum gave them to me as a birthday present. I think there used to be more small plates. The set is made by Flora, a Dutch earthenware factory which was founded in 1945, just after WWII and still exists as Royal Goedewaagen.

The beautiful old cups of WiIllemiens mother. There used to be many more, only three survived, now standing next to the old salt glazed 'salt jar' of Willemiens grandma. Isn't this great?!! I really love the tulips on the cups. Very stylish. I am not sure if they are porcelain or earthenware. I'll find out!

Myriam bought these wonderful treasures from a potter in Fez. I love the shape and the decoration, which is typical traditional Fez. It's earhtenware, with a white glaze on which the decoration is painted. The mugs are not fired at a very high temperature, which makes them kind of vulnerable.

The past week I made a great shop window. Not a real shop, but at least people can tell wha't going on here. Now, what is going on here? This is Amsterdam city centre. This is where I teach my ceramics classes and workshops. I 'lifted' the shopwindow. It needs some more work, but it's getting quite attractive.
